Basix Consulting and Technology Services Ltd. is one of the group entities of Basix Social Enterprise Group (BASIX SEG). The group is conglomerate of 13 entities that are either held or affiliated by the holding company called Bhartiya Samruddhi Investments and Consulting Services Ltd (BASICS Ltd), a public purpose company established in the year 1996 in India. BASICS Ltd provides investment and strategic guidance to its subsidiaries in the areas of Micro-finance and rural livelihoods promotion; and has been involved in policy work related to both these sectors. The experiences gained from the work of the group in livelihood promotion were offered to other institutions in India and other countries through technical and advisory services. Thus consulting has been an integral part of Basix since 1996.

Basix Consulting and Technology Services Ltd. brings together the conceptual and analytical capability and implementation experience in various companies of the Basix Group for undertaking sectoral and policy research, feasibility studies and other consultancy services, with a focus on contributing to the knowledge and practice of livelihood promotion.

Basix SEG has attracted human resources from premier institutions to work in rural areas for development of the rural poor and for promotion of their livelihoods. Thus the strong field force of Basix SEG formed the team to provide consulting services initially on an adhoc basis, in thematic areas like institutional development, information technology and financial inclusion in partnership / contractual basis with apex banks, local developmental institutions, various state governments and NGOs.

Basix Consulting undertook its first International Assignment for Papua New Guinea Microfinance Ltd (PML) funded by IFC to conduct a diagnostic study and develop a strategic business plan for this newly established Microfinance entity. Subsequently PML engaged Basix Consulting to provide complete IT-MIS solution.

A separate Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of Consulting Services has evolved within BASICS Ltd. This emerged to meet the increased demand for the expertise of Basix group acquired during a decade in the field of livelihood promotion by organizations engaged in similar work.

The work of Basix SEG with several Ministries like Ministry of Urban Development Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Textiles, Rural Development, Agriculture, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority and with several State Governments, International organizations such as World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, IFAD, DFID, JICA has helped to expand horizon of consulting services both thematically and globally.

Basix Consulting provided Technical Assistance to Shore Bank International (SBI). In the same year Basix Consulting was invited by United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) to undertake feasibility study in nine less developed countries of SAARC, Mekong and Pacific regions – Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives in SAARC region, Timor Leste and Laos, Cambodia in Mekong Region and Samoa, Vanuatu and Soloman Islands in Pacific Region. Consulting also worked in SriLanka, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal and Fiji.

Consulting Services SBU was registered as a Company - Basix Consulting and Training Services Ltd. (BCTS). BCTS is actively engaged in providing consulting services in the regions of Africa, Pacific, South Asia and South-East Asia. The thematic areas on which Consulting services were provided include Institution Development for Livelihood promotion (IDLP), Inclusive Financial Sector Development (IFSD) and IT Advisory Services (ITAS).

Proactive business development efforts of BCTS under the UNCDF Micro Lead Expansion project lead to offering consultancy in six African countries namely Cameroon, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Ghana. BCTS, organized study programs/exposure visits for participants from Madagascar, Timor Leste, Bhutan, Ethiopian Mali and Burkina Faso. In India, BCTS is actively engaged in promotion of Farmer’s Producer Companies, a new generation Farmer’s collectives for Uttar Pradesh Bhumi Sudhar Nigam, Govt. of UP and Maharashtra Agriculture Competiveness Project for Govt of Maharashtra both funded by the World Bank. The other states in which BCTS undertook consultancy include Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Punjab, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu.

The company’s name got changed to Basix Consulting & Technology Services Ltd. with addition of one more SBU on Innovative Rural Technology Consulting Services which aims at providing consultancy on low cost technologies for livelihood promotion.
